The materials must meet our needs

and be in line with our lifestyle

Tell me what your house is like, and I will tell you who you are.

Tell me what your house is like, and I will tell you who you are. Our homes speak of us, what we are like and how we interact. What we like to do in them and how we spend our time is reflected not only in what our rooms, bathrooms or kitchens are like but in the materials we use to create them.

Any construction or refurbishment project must answer this question: what are the people living in that house like? The more a house speaks of you, your personality and your lifestyle, the closer you are to creating a consistent home where your idiosyncrasies are reflected in addition to beauty.

When these concepts are clear, you just have to find the right elements. In Mallorca, since 1921, we have DURAN: a specialist in building materials, who before proposing which is the best among the countless options, will first seek to know your needs and make your home a functional and stylish place.

And if we talk about functionality, the kitchen takes the cake. Kitchens are no longer those hidden places at the end of the corridor and take full prominence, becoming that place where you want to be and spend most of your time. DURAN kitchens are a perfect blend of design and functionality, between technology and wellness. Modern kitchens are not just a place to cook; you live in them. The kitchen is the heart and soul of the house; it hosts conversations and surely some other secrets!

Mallorca Platinum Palmer 1956 Duran

Eating healthy is no longer a fad; it is a way of life in which fresh food gains positions against processed food, which results in larger fridges and smaller freezers. As José Manuel Martínez – head of the kitchen department at DURAN – explains, “current appliances reflect a healthier and more efficient way of cooking, eliminating the thousands of gadgets that invaded our countertop, giving way to simpler and more efficient elements such as vacuum packers, which allow delicious marinades, low temperature cooking ovens , or surface extraction plates, which are perfectly hidden and seek a novel design”.

But if kitchens are the heart of our homes, bathrooms don’t want to lag behind and, for some years now, design has boomed to make them those places that make the difference between the conventional and the avant-garde. Visiting one of the three great showrooms that DURAN has in Mallorca, you realise that the minimalism of straight and aseptic shapes gives way to softer lines, with natural stone countertops and matt black, nickel, brass or copper faucets. And why not, colours! Sand, dirt, even black are replacing the surgical white of the toilets, giving a less cold touch.

Bathrooms reflect, again, a change of archetype, showers above bathtubs, or exempt bathtubs. Large showers, technologically adapted, able to change our mood, either with a specific colour or with the right song. Or smart toilets, with automated seats, night light, antibacterial cleaning system and with save-a-flush, above the bidets.

The bathrooms of our homes are becoming “small spas” prepared to provide us with the coveted well-being after a day of work or simply a moment of disconnection from the countless responsibilities of the day to day.

At DURAN, homes speak of you because they speak with you. And it is in this coming of ideas that the key that opens the perfect project for you and your loved ones appears. Whether it is large 3-metre pieces to grant monumentality to your pavement or the small mosaic format that adds colour and versatility. Anything goes! Hydraulic flooring, porcelain, wood, laminate, as long as it adapts to your lifestyle, customs and style of your home, something that is much clearer once after visiting and chatting with DURAN.

Your Intelligent House in Majorca

In 1956 in Andratx, an electronics enthusiast, Juan Palmer Ferrer, began manufacturing small appliances that he sold to people in the village. From then until now, what started as a hobby for this intrepid Andritxol, has become a cutting-edge technology, telecommunications and automation company in Mallorca that supplies the island’s homes with comprehensive electronic solutions with state-of-the-art technology.

Palmer 1956’s new generation has understood that young visionary’s approach, elevating it to the next level. A level that places them in international tradeshows and forums allowing them to go two steps ahead and anticipate the market to present the latest and most exclusive in a field where there are no limits.

When we sit face to face with Mateu Balaguer, CEO of the company, and ask him precisely about technological limits, he replies bluntly, “the limits are set by your imagination. Everything you can imagine can be done; therefore, there are no limits”.

Mallorca Platinum Palmer 1956

Power to the imagination!

Therefore, let us imagine that a house can detect a water escape before the leak even appears or a fire before it occurs. Let’s imagine that irrigation can be activated when you find out it is needed, imagine that you can light up a room based on motion sensors or that the blinds open on their own with the arrival of the first rays of sunlight.

Imagine houses transformed into authentic offices that facilitate connectivity to any point in the world or converted into medical centres capable of responding to all kinds of emergencies and able to connect with a specialist from your home’s living room. All this you can imagine, of course, from the seat of your cinema with Dolby Atmos and DTSX system, 4k Ultra HD Bluray playback, and without a doubt, with a good popcorn bowl.

Mallorca Platinum Palmer 1956

But if we go one step further, our homes can change our mood, they can play our favourite song at the right time or create the ideal mood for a romantic dinner with your partner just by saying a word. They can help you work on fear, if they are easy to scare people, with a well-lit outdoor path at night with cameras that will determine if there has been any kind of movement on the outside.

And even if it looks like we are just talking about BIG DATA, robots and sensors, for Palmer 1956, people are paramount. Knowing who is behind all this technological universe is what really gives added value to any specialised proposal. To create a smart home, you must know who lives in it, their habits, their tastes and their customs. From there, you just have to get carried away…

And if there is one place to get carried away, that is definitely the kitchen. PALMER 1956 are specialists in the creation of these unique spaces where designing and dreaming merge into a comprehensive project from start to finish, with the finest, sophisticated and, above all, functional materials. The kitchen of the future is elegant and intelligent; able to do the daily shopping for you through detectors inside our fridges, which will notify us if we lack any ingredients and value where to find the best product and make the purchase. A place where the oven will connect automatically just as you leave the office so that getting home is about sitting at the table and enjoying a good meal with your loved ones.

Mallorca Platinum Palmer 1956

As Palmer 1956’s CEO Mateu Balaguer explains,

“In too many cases we find homes equipped with home automation that the client has neglected because they don’t understand it,
because it is not adapted to their needs or due to a lack of maintenance; and the same goes for the rest of the facilities.”

Which makes the accompaniment and after-sales service one of the cornerstones and one of the competitive advantages of Palmer 1956, as well as one of the commitments made with its customers.

The pleasure of private flying.

Head to Cannes dress in Dior's

We wake up on the morning of July 14th in a fabulous Lisbon hotel, and while we stretch out, a tingling runs all over our bodies. Today is the big day. In a few hours, we will be ready wearing our best outfit to attend the premiere of our latest film at the Cannes Film Festival. Just 15 minutes in advance, we arrive at the airport, comfortably pass our Dior dress through the control and glamorously climb the stairs of the private jet that will take us, in about 2 hours, to the limousine directly to the red carpet. And as we drop into the plane’s comfortable leather armchair, the crew welcome us with a glass of champagne. The day starts well.

The Anniversary

September 5th, today is our anniversary. We blindfold our partner and take them to the private jet that will take us to the paradise beach in Mallorca, where we met 7 years ago. All the flight details have been taken care of, the bar well stocked and of course we are accompanied by “Pippo and Lola”, our inseparable teckels.

Time is Gold

It is 7 am on a Monday, April 17th; it is an intense workday. Up to three scheduled meetings will keep us busy. The first of these in London, and from there to Frankfurt to an important business appointment with an investment group. Every second is gold, so we cannot waste one. Our private jet’s cabin is our office today. As the crew prepare the plane to take off, we connect to the wifi; our first video conference onboard starts in 10 minutes. We landed at our destination on time; having been able to rest and we are fresh for the meeting. We take the latest notes of the day in absolute concentration on our way back thanks to ultra-quiet cabins that inhibit any engine noise.

Any of these three scenes can be the day-to-day life for excellentair, the largest Cessna Citation Jet aviation company in Europe that has seen its activity grow exponentially since its inception in 2014. Jet travel is increasingly a more demanded option, for many reasons, versus the traditional business class of conventional commercial airlines.

Among others, decide how, where, with whom and above all, when to fly. Planning a holiday, romantic getaway or business trip in an agile, fast, comfortable and safe way by private jet is increasingly a reality for many people.

Excellentair customers are committed to a way of travel that allows them to avoid tedious airport queues, complicated boarding and documentation processes, as well hours wasted in airports waiting for flights to depart.

Today, all this is increasingly becoming a part of the past, and while in the fifties the first flights in first class appeared, nowadays we are seeing how the first class is being set aside by private aviation, which is conquering the leadership of the skies in recent years. “Customers enjoy a fully personalised way of travel, where they can decide even the minutest of details and reach unsuspected destinations that regular companies cannot access, and above all, they can reach those destinations with absolute privacy and discretion,” says Manuel Grimm, Chief Operating Officer of excellentair.

Mallorca Platinum Excellent Air

Not so many years ago, private jet travel was almost unthinkable for most people. Still, preferences are changing radically “customers prefer to rent the whole plane and not just a seat, and the shocking news is that the cost, unlike what one can imagine, is pretty much the same,” Grimm says.

Mallorca is in the top 3 of the 250 different destinations where the company operates in Europe, along with other favourite destinations such as Ibiza, London, Paris and Nice, and can even reach Morocco or Moscow.

A growing demand year after year and in the phase of which manufacturers are already developing the first prototype jets with Mach 1.5 technology, that is, at 1,5 times the speed of sound, allows them to make intercontinental flights in 4 hours on average. Unbelievable, right? Although not so far from being a reality sooner rather than later.

Son Vida, a residential area with history.

The origin of the estate dates back to the thirteenth century and, over the years, family inheritances and land redistributions gave way to new owners.

The Son Vida residential area is Mallorca’s most exclusive and sought after, but the lands on which it was built hide a historical and little known past.

The current residential area is located on the old lands of one of the most important estates of the city of Palma, Son Vida, which was owned by the Vida, Desmes and Trullols families. The origin of the estate dates back to the thirteenth century and over the years, family inheritances and redistributions of land gave way to new owners.

One of the most significant changes was the construction in the early twentieth century of a neo-Gothic castle-shaped villa inspired by the Peralada castle (Girona). This property was a gift from Fernando Truyols and Despuig to his wife Magdalena Villalonga who maintained ownership of the building and land until the mid-1950s when they sold their properties.

In 1956, Majorcan businessmen José Luis Ferrer and Joan Mora purchased part of the property and created the Son Vida public limited company. Just one year later, both acquired all shares and began a process of land division and construction.

A few years later, Son Vida’s main urban revolution occurred with the purchase of part of the company by American aviator Stephen Albert Kusak Sliva. A former military pilot who participated in World War II and the Korean and Indochina wars. This pilot landed on the island with the idea of creating a luxury resort comprising hotels, golf courses and a residential area around them.

Kusak’s fantasy materialised when he managed to turn the area’s castle into a hotel. Thus, in June 1961 the castle opened its doors as the first luxury hotel in the area founded by José Luis Ferrer Ramonell, Joan Móra Gornals and Stephen A. Kusak.

Nowadays, the Castillo Hotel Son Vida belongs to the Marriott International chain, and has been home to influential guests from all over the world such as Prince Rainier of Monaco and Grace Kelly, Aristotle Onassis, Maria Callas, Anthony Quinn, Pedro Almodóvar, Claudia Schiffer and many more.
One of the most curious facts about Son Vida is that it was one of the last private luxury residential areas in Spain. It was not until the 80s that the owners of Son Vida S.A, owner to date of most plots, signed an agreement with the city of Palma to transfer to them the roads, free spaces and public areas. Currently, the residential area belongs to the municipality of Palma and has all the necessary public services.

Nowadays, what was one of the most important estates of medieval Palma has become the area or reference for luxury in Mallorca. A residential area full of very little known history.

Placing the requested products in the right place, at the right time

If we look in the dictionary for the definition of the word "logistics", one of its meanings is the following: "the careful organisation of a complicated activity so that it happens successfully and effectively".

A definition that, in the case of the largest international freight and distribution company in the Balearic Islands, Mallorca Logispeed, would fit perfectly as long as it goes with the following motto: “make the difficult easy, and possible the impossible”.

Nothing is impossible for Mallorca Logispeed: there are practical solutions for any of the requests they face in the day to day, however difficult they may seem. Placing the requested products, in the right place, at the right time and under the desired conditions is not an easy task, so it is necessary to have a quality service you can trust.

For Luz Cloquell, Executive Partner of the company, that is Mallorca Logispeed’s key to success: “treating with great care everything that our customers entrust us so that the transfer from point A to point B takes place smoothly, with rigorous meticulousness and guarantee”.

Mallorca Platinum Logispeed Luz Cloquell

To make this axiom a reality, this young Mallorcan company draws on its international partner Schumacher, one of the largest logistics companies in Europe based in Germany and 90 with years of experience, which grants the project the perfect combination of German technology and Mallorcan soul. “We have the largest fleet of trucks in all of Mallorca, with the capacity to transport up to 24 tons of all kinds of goods”, explains the company’s director.

One of Mallorca Logispeed’s cornerstones is international moves, both business and private. Luz Cloquell reveals that the company has the necessary infrastructure and qualified team to disassemble/ assemble the furniture, pack/ unpack each product up and transport it both outside and within Mallorca. “Customers open the doors of their homes, their companies and we must treat their goods as if they were our own, as if it were our home, our company and above all offer solutions so that a move is not a headache.” Daily challenges that become anecdotes such as “taking out a piano of almost three metres through a 70cm x 30cm window, or arriving with one of our trucks to villa in a secluded spot of the island that only has stone paths, literally, to get to it”.

Mallorca Platinum Logispeed

But international moves are not Mallorca Logispeed’s only cornerstone; another one of its key points is logistical storage, "we have a large warehouse with large palletising capacity, which allows the storage of a large amount of stock of any type of product to be preserved in optimal conditions and safely"

But if there’s one thing the company excels at, it is distribution. Getting where no one gets to thanks to its fleet of trucks is a tangible reality in Mallorca. Logispeed can solve multiple difficulties, whether an event that seemed impossible to hold or a wedding in which the bride and groom were struggling to find a company capable of taking to the desired place the furniture, utensils, flowers or decoration that they had so painstakingly chosen together with their wedding planner for their big day.”

For Luz Cloquell, who is extremely passionate about logistics, no challenge is impossible because they are strategic when making each of the decisions, she explains. For example, when working with the promoters, it is often necessary to unload goods on-site, such as building materials, hot tubs, or any type of furniture that they have purchased “if they need a forklift to unload, we put it at their disposal; if a crane is necessary to gain access since there is a steep slope in the land, we put at a crane at their disposal, no problem”.

Every new day for Mallorca Logispeed is like a great puzzle of more than 1000 pieces that must be completed. With good planning and a thorough study of the situation, all the pieces end up fitting in perfectly and build a beautiful figure.
